ABOUT MAKHENA BARTHELEMY
Overview
After graduating law school and passing the bar exam, Makhena began working at the Public Defender’s Office as a full-time attorney. During her time there, she handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases and secured favorable results for her clients. Additionally, she has tried over 30 cases (as lead counsel and co-counsel) with the majority of her cases ending in a Not Guilty verdict. Makhena left the Public Defender’s Office to join the team of attorneys at Your Defense Team where she has continued to obtain favorable results for her clients.
Experience
During her last year of law school, Makhena completed a semester in practice at the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office. She was certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Certified Legal Intern and managed her own case load. This experience confirmed her love and passion for criminal defense work and her success as a Certified Legal Intern led to a job with the Public Defender’s Office.
Education
At the University of Florida Makhena majored in criminology and minored in family, youth, and community sciences. In 2017, Makhena was accepted to The University of Florida Levin College of Law. While in law school, she enrolled and participated in legal clinics and trial advocacy courses. These courses gave her hands on experience and taught her how to be an effective litigator.
